Welcome to Gamernomicon.com!

Gamernomicon.com is a website by gamers, for gamers. Not your sit in front of the TV and play the latest watered down console gamers. Real gamers. If you play tabletop RPGs, CCGs, Board Games, wargames and even video games (just not as your sole experience of gaming) then you're in the right place.

This page will show up each time you log in.  While Gamernomicon is in development this page will serve as a place to see what is what. Below you will see information on what is what and how to do different things on the site. You will also see what is working, what is in development and what is planned. This way you can quickly get up to speed on what's going on and know how to work within the site.

With no further ado here is the info

Main Menu:  Across the top and under the logo and whatnot you will see the list of sections for Gamernomicon. Each section is dedicated to an aspect of Gaming, Gamers and Gamer Culture. The current sections and their purposes are:

Home. This section is about the user and news about the site. Here you will find your profile, your groups, your account info and other items pertaining to information contextual to YOU. The News page offers news with buttons to select news by section. User filters will be available to allow you to hide news items that don't interest you. Gamernomicon will never use algorithms to filter things out because of what you click on or otherwise do on the site. We are of the opinion that you are smart enough to choose what you do and don't want to see.

  1. Games.   The Games section will contain a menu that separates games by Type: RPG, Board, Video, Card, Miniature, LARP, etc. Each of these menu items will expand out by Genre, then by game. The right sidebar will contain contextual information about the page you are currently viewing, if there is any. The left sidebar will contain all the menu items and any filters available to you for the current page. Under the game type menu will also be a link to create a piece of content related to that menus game type. More on that under the Content Type section below.
  2. Events.   Set up the same way as the Games section for sidebars, this section will hold menus for general gamer events as well as gamer and geek conventions. Content Types for this section will again be explained below.
  3. Geek Culture.  TV, Media, Music, Movies... if it's not an actual game or event you'll probably find it here.
  4. Groups.  Here will be groups that users can create. Also this will hold the Game Groups subsection. This whole section is still in very early development so information will change drastically. For now you won't find much but you can create a Group if you like, but given the extremely early development of groups be warned that the odds of groups being lost due to changes is very high. Details on Game Groups will follow in a section below.
  5. Glossary.   Simply an alphabetical listing of all pages on the site.
  6. Admin.   A section for Admins, Content Managers and Editors. This will hold lists of new content and the like. If you aren't in one of the aforementioned roles you won't even see this

Content Types: Content Types are bundles of Fields and other information that make up a specific type of page on Gamernomicon. Each will fill a specific use and need. Each Content Type will appear in appropriate menus in the appropriate section of the site, although some will be used across several sections.

  1. Article.  This should explain itself.  Pick a topic and write something about it!  Fields to select general topic (ie, RPG, Event, yadda yadda), page reference, images, media and other ways to categorize the Article will be available.
  2. Basic Page.  Mostly for static pages with content that changes very little.  About Us, Contact and things of that nature will use a Basic Page.  Also used to allow embedding of other content.   This is an Admin Content Type.
  3. Convention Base Page.  General information about a convention.  Use this to give a general synopsis of what a con is about.   From a conventions base apge you can choose to create a Convention Listing.
  4. Convention Listing.  A page for a specific instance of a convention, be it this years upcoming con or a variation of a conventions, ie: ComicCon San Diego, Anahem, blah blah blah.   The text body should give specifics about the specific instance.  From a Convention Listing you can create a Convention Event.
  5. Convention Event.   This is for an event occurring at a specific convention.  Examples include: An RPG game scheduled for specific date(s)/time(s), a seminar or any other type of event at a con.  You can even input non official events like parties, games not scheduled through the convention, etc.
